The Exponentiality of Compounding

Compounding

This week, I learned about compounding learning, and investing, which fascinated me. I realized that in the long run, everything pays off. It is about building up a system that works for you. You could try to emulate badasses, but you are you. Take advantage of their system or even have a completely wild one just for you!

It is the consistency that builds momentum for exponentiality.

As shown in the image, starting with a penny seems insignificant and nonsense; however, in the long term, the compounding effect beats the linear equation from $10,000. Clearly, the surprise is on the last 5 days surpassing the ten thousand collum exponentially.

Think of it in a long term. It requires intentionality and purpose.

Exponential Growth

Here is how?

Do more what already works. Keep doing what is aligned with your goals and give you joy.

Less is more! Elimination Technique

By eliminating downsides, you are creating upsides

  • Education: Avoid stupid mistakes.
  • Investing: Limit unnecessary risk.
  • Exercise: Miss fewer workouts.
  • Nutrition: Eat fewer unhealthy foods.

Now aim for improvement

  • Weight Loss: Measure your calorie intake. Did you eat 3,500 calories per day last week? Focus on an average of 3,400 per day this week.
  • Strength Training: Oh, you squatted 250 pounds for 5 sets of 5 reps last week? Give 255 pounds a try this week.
  • Relationships: How many new people did you meet last week? Zero? Focus on introducing yourself to one new person this week. Or who did you deepen your relationship with?
  • Entrepreneurship: You only landed two clients last week while your average is five? It sounds like you should be focused on making more sales calls this week.

If you get one percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done.

Spend each day trying to be a little wiser than you were when you woke up. Discharge your duties faithfully and well. Systematically you get ahead, but not necessarily in fast spurts. Nevertheless, you build discipline by preparing for fast spurts. Slug it out one inch at a time, day by day. At the end of the day — if you live long enough — most people get what they deserve.

It is remarkable how much long-term advantage people like us have gotten by trying to be consistently not stupid, instead of trying to be very intelligent.”

Higher-Order Thinking

Teaching had always been something that intrigues me. Why do some teachers explain once then their students understand but for others, it is a constant repetition for memorization? I found the answer in this video on how to elevate thinking.

Here are some question starters of different levels:

Action

1. Curate your information diet to be rich and diverse. Follow people who think differently than you. Read old books. Remember that what you put into your mind today is the raw material you have to work with tomorrow.

2. Surround yourself with people whose default behavior is your desired behavior. If you want to run more, join a group that runs every day. Spend less time with people whose default behavior isn’t your desired behavior.

3. Design your environment knowing it will influence your future self. You can easily make undesired behaviors harder and desired behaviors easier.
