Story📔

Everyone’s comfort zone is different, so you’ll need to be authentic with yourself and identify situations that will push you. Don’t compare risks and failures to others — what makes them uncomfortable may not make you uncomfortable. To encourage discomfort this week, our theme will be Failure Week. If you don’t fail, you benefit from the risk you took. To commit to this mindset, you need to prioritize having a Growth Mindset.

Here is what I did for the Failure Week:

50+ DMs For Internship and Meet

I cold messaged more than 50 people in the industry that I am interested in to get an internship and some for a 15min call. Unfortunately, I only got less than 10 replies and scheduled one meeting! I am not complaining but I expected more outcomes.

Date Rejection

I had been interested in this girl in my school for like months; however, I merely had anything long conversation with her. It is only HELLO and BYE👋 type of chat… I managed to boldly ask her for a date!!! Fortunately…And Unfortunately, she rejected my brilliant offer! Unbelievable… Unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity and fortunately, it was intentional even though I felt a little heartbroken. 💔

Presentation Failure

For my hackathon team, I was the presenter. From my perspective, I failed miserably but learn significantly. I realized that presenting with speaker notes is really robotic and does not work. Authenticity always beats speaker notes! 🗣️

Teaching Success

This actually surprised me. I asked my AP Biology teacher for a teaching opportunity expecting nothing. Initially, she did not respond to my email, which was a relief for me. Yesterday during class, she told me that my request is legit and agreed to have me teach for one period(40min and 36 seconds).

Headaches🤕

Recently, I had been struggling with not having enough excitement and discipline to follow up with my self-made plan, which is an issue related to motivation. This is a very awesome video that had helped me incredibly.

Quotes

She is not gone. All the people she had helped will carry on her legacy.

With great power comes great responsibility

Question: If everyone in the world forgets you, what would be your reaction?

Awareness🎗️

  1. I am extremely distracted. I have this FOMO. I do not feel this when I finish a task I feel the time spent was worth it. At the same time, I have a fear of working on important things. what if I cannot accomplish it? what if it is too hard for me?

I feel like I am just excited when I talk with other people about my project. In actuality, I am not doing anything when I am alone.

Even though sometimes the behavior is against our morals, we still do it because of human excuses and external pressure.

2. I realized everywhere I go, there is a hierarchy. The more powerful take advantage of the crowd and become more powerful.

3. Prioritize things that are fun, help you grow, and aligns with your vision

4. Most people tend to be completely the opposite of what they had experienced during their childhood.

Epiphany💡

There is no such thing as negative emotions: Guilt, Jealousy, Depression, etc. What we call negative emotions are valuable calls for changes. This means that we need to have some twists in what we usually do, something called habits. As you grow, your system has to grow. These so-called negative feelings are proof of your personal growth.

I have to think this way because it is the only way that I could grow and move on. Focus on action, not emotions. What is one that I am in control of and I could do right now? Have time for thinking. I know why I have too much reflection now. It is because I did not schedule time for reflection and scheduling. Then I use other times for it. I realized that I do not do anything in school.

Improvements 📈

Tips for how to connect with legit people using content you’ve created:

Step 1: Identify the person you want to connect with.

Step 2: Find their email or LinkedIn.

Step 3: Send them a message like:

I’ve been following what you’re working on at [company/project] and I’m really passionate about what you’re doing (if you read a research paper they wrote, adding that here also — do your background research!). I’m currently excited about [focus] because [reason]. Here’s a recent article/video I made on [topic]: [link your content]. Right now my current project is focused on [what you working on]. I’d love to ask you a few questions if you’re open to chatting. Specifically around [area you want to talk to them about… you can also list a few questions].

Would you be open to jumping on a quick call or google hangout for 20min?Ps. I’m [age]yrs old and it’s really difficult to find people to help me advance my curiosity and knowledge. I’d really appreciate any time you’d be willing to sacrifice!

Thank you!

Step 4: Wait 3–4 days.

Step 5: If they don’t respond, follow up. Here’s how you can follow up:

Hi [name]! Not sure if you received my last message, but I thought you might be interested in checking out a recent article I just published on [specific topic]. Would love to know what you think! [link another article]

Ps. I’d still love to chat if you have some time over the next week. If you don’t have the bandwidth, please let me know… either way, I’d appreciate a response.

Thanks!!

Step 6: Wait 3–4 days.

Step 7: If they still don’t respond, then use another method to content them. Examples: Twitter, Email, go to their office with cupcakes (yes, that works). Hustle! Don’t just give up. Be relentless.

Step 8: Set up a meeting with them. Prepare for it. Be intentional. Impress them, learn valuable stuff, and build a relationship.

Quotes from Sebastian Thrun

The idea is not to replace colleges but life-long learning

The world is changing too fast that we could not stop learning to thrive. We live too long and our jobs are too short.

We teach what colleges does not teach

Questions⁉

What system could I implement so I could get going faster?
